Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Lontra Industries Inc., which operates The Subplot (subplotsports.com). By using the site or creating an account, you agree to them, to our Privacy Policy and to our Community Rules. If you post stories or fan posts, the Contributor Agreement also applies.

Who can use The Subplot

• You must be 18 or older to create an account. Anyone may read the site without one.
• One account per person. The information you give must be true and kept up to date.
• You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens on your account. Tell us at once at support@subplotsports.com if you think someone else is using it.

Your content

• You keep ownership of what you post.
• By posting, you give The Subplot a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, copy, edit for length and style, translate, promote and distribute it on the site, in the newsletter, on social media and in our videos, with credit to you. The Contributor Agreement sets out how long published stories stay up and how revenue is shared.
• You confirm you have the right to post everything you submit, including photos, and that it does not break anyone's rights or the law.
• Fan posts are the opinions of their writers, not of The Subplot.

Rules

You agree to follow the Community Rules. You must not:

• post anything illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or that reveals someone's private information
• copy other people's articles or photos, or post anything you do not have the rights to
• pretend to be someone else, or claim to be a team, league or reporter you are not
• spam, advertise, post affiliate or betting links, or post on someone else's behalf for payment without saying so
• give betting picks or betting advice
• scrape the site, send automated traffic, try to break our security, or interfere with other users
• try to manipulate page views, recs or ad revenue (for example with bots, paid traffic or click schemes). Doing so cancels any revenue share owed.

Moderation

We review fan posts and quick takes before they go live and may edit them for length, clarity and accuracy. We may decline, remove or label any content, and suspend or close accounts that break these terms, with or without notice. If you think we made a mistake, email editor@subplotsports.com.

Our content and trademarks

• The Subplot name, logo and the site's design, and stories written by The Subplot, belong to Lontra Industries Inc. You may share links and short quotes with credit. Do not copy whole stories.
• Team names, logos and league marks belong to their owners. They are used only to identify teams. The Subplot is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any team, league or player.

Sports information

We work hard to get things right and we correct errors (see our Standards). Scores, stats and schedules come partly from third-party sources and may be delayed or wrong. Nothing on The Subplot is betting, financial or medical advice.

Third-party links and ads

The site links to other websites and shows ads from third parties. We are not responsible for their content, products or privacy practices.

Disclaimers

The Subplot is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will always be available, error-free or secure.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Lontra Industries Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or lost profits, from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $100 CAD or the amount we paid you in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived, including those of Quebec.

Indemnity

You agree to cover our reasonable costs if a claim against us arises from content you posted or from your breach of these terms.

Ending your account

You can close your account at any time from your settings or by email. We may close accounts as described under Moderation. Sections on content licences for already-published stories, revenue owed, disclaimers and liability continue after an account closes.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Northwest Territories and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Courts in the Northwest Territories have jurisdiction, unless the law of your province gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell account holders by email or on the site at least 15 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new terms.
